YOUNG BLOOD BY DANIEL ALEXANDER HARRIS

Daniel Alexander Harris shoots ‘Young Blood’, Amplify’s ongoing and ever-growing exploration of youth culture.

This year's edition focuses on ‘Young Men on Masculinity’ where Amplify conducted a huge piece of research on over 2000 young men aged 16-24 focusing on themes that affect their everyday lives.

Daniel Alexander Harris directed the film documentary viewable here, as well as photographing an accompanying stills commission that reflects the cast of the documentary which lives in a seventy page magazine and across the full project.

"We set out to find three very different young men that could represent a snapshot of this age group. All three young men came from incredibly different backgrounds, had very different upbringings and have differing interests, passions and aspirations. We moved around the UK, it was essential that we didn't remain London-centric.

As a Director & Photographer, it was really important to me to handle the individual stories honestly and not to impose an angle. You have a finite amount of time with each person and their stories are incredibly expressive, emotional and are to be handled with the greatest care. Through the process, I created environments for open conversation and I'm incredibly proud of the searingly honest conversations that live within the film.

This generation of young men understand that they need to express themselves and are more comfortable at being able to emote and cry, yet be assertive when it comes to careers and ambitions. They are equally aware of inequalities, particularly around gender, acknowledging that their female counterparts do not share the same privileges.”
